Zines

My first Zine is based on a dream I had during the pandemic. Since dreams tend to explore metaphor and symbols, I thought it would work for a 2 track comic. In my dream, I was in a Parisian cafe/bar. Josephine Baker walks in with her pet Cheetah. I run over to her and start yelling “How did you do it? How do you live your truth?” She pokes me in the head several times and says “If your truth does not fit the social construct, then don’t live there.” I took this to mean that I should make a change in consciousness.

I have a friend that loves all things Josephine Baker and I made this with her in mind. I used imagery from Josephine Baker’s childhood. Josephine’s early life was spent working with her mother at the Imperial Laundry in St Louis and as a domestic servant. I wanted to create the emotion of longing and desire as a backdrop to the words.
